To help raise money for the Mat Fund Aikido of Phoenix will hold a raffle drawing. Beginning Sept. 17 we will sell raffle tickets for $5 each or 5 for $20. Prizes will be announced soon and will include items such as instructor fees for a month, carved weapons set, etc. but we would also like to open up the offerings to include donations from our students and their families. If you have a product and/or a service you’d like to donate we would be happy to include it on our list of goodies and we’d be very grateful too. Please contact Teresa Sensei if you have something you’d like to offer.
Please visit the raffle page for more details!
Our Mat Fund is currently at $2276.22. We added $12 from water sales for August. Thanks to all of you who keep putting money in our jar.
With a goal of $3,570 we are getting closer to ordering the last of our new mats, but we’re not quite there yet. We need about $1300 more before we can order. $650 of that will be from the sale of the old mats. Students who have signed up to purchase the old mats need to see Teresa Sensei to make arrangements for payment. Together with the sale of the old mats we still need to raise about $655. To help us get there we have planned two events that we hope will make it possible for us to place the final order. The first event will be a raffle drawing and the second event will be a self-defense class for kids.
The raffle drawing will begin the week of Mon., Sep. 17 and will end on Sun., Oct. 28. Each “chance” will cost $5 or you can purchase 5 for $20. We would also like to request donations from our students and their families. If you have a product and/or a service that you would be willing to donate for our raffle please see Teresa Sensei. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated.
The self-defense class for kids will be on Sat., Oct. 20 from 10am-12noon and will cost $20 a person or $30 a family (immediate members). Teresa Sensei will offer the class to any and all kids ages 5-13. This is not restricted to Aikido of Phoenix students, anyone can come so invite your friends, neighbors, anyone you think would be interested. The more people we get the more money we raise for the Mat Fund. Registration can be done through Sensei or online at www.AikidoOfPhoenix.com.
There will be NO CLASSES on Tues., Aug. 30 or Wed., Aug. 31 at the Chandler dojo. The Chandler Community Center will be doing it’s annual stripping and refinishing of all the floors. We are lucky because August has 5 weeks this year, so we’ll still get in 4 weeks of training. The city actually considered our schedule when planning for this so if you get a chance let the front desk people know how much you appreciate their thoughtfulness.
All classes on Wed., May 25 will be held in room 111 due to a Community Center event in room 109.
ROLL-A-THON will take place during each of the kids’ classes on Wednesday, May 25. Please read article for full details.
The Chandler dojo will not have classes on Wed., Nov. 24 (day before Thanksgiving) because the Community Center closes at 5 pm that day. Also, There will be no Aikido classes on Wed., Dec. 15 due to our Christmas party and awards ceremony being held on that evening. The last class for 2010 for the Chandler dojo will be Wed., Dec. 22.
The Chandler dojo will NOT have classes on Tuesday, August 31 or Wednesday, September 1. The Community Center will be stripping and refinishing all the floors so we will not have room to train. Due to how the dates fall on the calendar each month still provides us with four weeks of training. Enjoy the break and we’ll see you when classes resume on Tuesday, Sept.
Congratulations go out to Avichal Jha and his wife, Anu, on the birth of their new baby girl. Mother and daughter are both fine and healthy. We wish Avi and Anu all the best as they begin their new life as parents. The world is lucky to have such loving people to raise this little girl.
