Teresa Mastison Sensei

The Chief Instructor of Aikido of Phoenix is Teresa Mastison Sensei. Mastison Sensei holds the rank of Godan (5th degree black belt) and is a two decade veteran of the martial arts. Mastison Sensei has studied directly under two of the highest ranking instructors in the country; Shihan Bill Sosa Sensei, 6th degree black belt, and Shihan Peter Ting Sensei, 6th degree black belt. In July of 1994, Mastison Sensei moved to Arizona at the urging of the late Kobayashi Sensei – Chief Instructor and founder of the Seidokan Aikido style. Once in the valley, she established Aikido of Phoenix. From a meager beginning of two students, Aikido of Phoenix has grown into two schools with over 180 students. In August of 2007, Mastison Sensei was honored on 2006 by being inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame as Children’s instructor of the year.

Aikido of Phoenix is fortunate to have a group of black belt students that teach adult classes in two of our locations. These are all wonderful instructors and help keep Aikido of Phoenix a fantastic place to train.

John Scanlin

John Scanlin holds the rank of Yondan(4th degree black belt) and has been with Aikido of Phoenix since 1996. John is certified Personal Protection Instructor and completed the Aikido of Phoenix Makoto Program- Advanced Student Achievement course and test. John serves as the senior instructor for adult classes at the main Chandler dojo.
